PLAYING RULES FOR IDAHO FLAG FOOTBALL

8 MAN FOOTBALL
a) 2 linemen- (1 center and 1 lineman) ***can not go out for a pass***
b) Everyone else is an eligible receiver
c) No run zones = 5 yard line in
d) Absolutely "NO BLOCKING" (10 yard penalty), but we do allow shaddowing!
e) Jumping and Spinning is allowed
*****These rules make for a high scoring game*****

EQUIPMENT
A. LEAGUE FURNISHED

1) Jerseys - one per player
b) All team jerseys will be purchased by Platinum Events & Security form NFL Youth Football on behalf of the IFFL.

2) Flags - standard three flag set.
a) Flags must be worn in the hip area and at rear. c) The home team wears red at the games, the other team
yellow.

3) Footballs
a) Each team will be furnished two footballs minimum.
b) Game footballs will be furnished by IFFL.

4) Medical Kit
a) This kit should have as a minimum a supply of bandages, anesthetic, an ice pack and some tape.

B. PLAYER FURNISHED

1) Shoes
a) Football cleats or turf shoes.

2) Mouthpiece
a) Colored football mouthpiece with strap cut off.
b) Mouthpiece will cover all top teeth.

3) Team Color Gym Shorts
a) Shorts can not have pockets or belt loops.
b) Players with pockets or belt loops will not be allowed to participate in the game.
c) If long pants are desired because of cold weather, the shorts must be worn over the long pants to provide
contrast to the flags.

THE TEAM
A. TEAM SIZE
1) Each team will have no less than 9 players and no more than 12 players.

B. COACHES
1) The Head Coach will be selected the Director of the IFFL and subject to a background check..
2) Assistant Coaches will be selected by the Head Coach or recommended by the IFFL. assistant coaches are subject
to a background check.

C. PARENTS
1) Parents are asked to give their time to make this sport a special experience for the youth.
2) Parents are asked to refrain from losing control at games. If they do lose control they will be asked to leave by
the officials or the members of the IFFL team. The Head Coach is responsible for the behavior and control of the
parents of his players.

OFFICIALS
A. FLAG OFFICIALS
1) officials will be provided by the IFFL.
2) officials must be at least 16 years of age and trained by IFFL.

B. GAME AUTHORITY
1) of a Each game will be officiated by two IFFL trained Officials. The timing of the game shall be the
responsibility trained IFFL timekeeper.

C. CHAIN CREW
1) Home team shall furnish qualified personnel to man chains and box.

D. STATITICIANS
1) Each team will provide their own statitician during all games.
2) Games stats should be emailed to the IFFL by the end of the game day!
3) Stats recorded (Points, Sacks, Touchdown passes and Interceptions)

THE PLAYING FIELD (same as tackle program)

QUARTERS OF THE GAME
1) Eight minutes quarters.
2) Offense has 30 seconds to put the ball in play from the Officials ready to play whistle. (Delay of game penalty
is 5 yards)
3) Time will be stopped for timeouts, changes of possession, and penalties. During the last two minutes
of each half, the clock will also stop in out-of-bounds situations and on incomplete passes.

TIMEOUTS

A. THREE TIMEOUTS WILL BE ALLOWED PER TEAM PER HALF.

SCORING VALUES
A. Touchdowns = 6 points
B. Extra Points = 2 points
C. Safeties = 2 points
D. Kickoff Returns = 8 points
E. Punt Returns = 8 points
F. Forfeit = 6 points for winning team

PLAYER PARTICIPATION
A. Each player must play at least 8 plays per half. (unless injured)

SPECIAL RULES FOR IDAHO FLAG FOOTBALL
A. Punts - Most flag leagues don't require punting, IFFL gives our teams theoption to punt.
B. Punt Returns - Teams are allowed to return all punts. Teams have the optoion to fair catch the ball.
If, the ball is fumbled on a attempted catch, the ball is live. Defensive team cannot advance a muffed punt.
C. Kick off and Punt Returns - The start of game and 3 quarter will be started by a kickoff. Kick offs and punt
returns are scored at 8 point instead of 6. PAT point still apply
D. Field - The IFFL plays on a 100 yard field.
E. Overtime - College Rules overtime
F. Fumbles - are able to be returned or advanced
G. Interceptions - are able to be returned or advanced
